Research suggests that structured mindfulness-based programs may support emotional well-being, including anxiety, depression, and quality of life, for some adults living with cancer.

Association of Mindfulness-Based Interventions with Anxiety Severity in Adults with Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (JAMA Network Open, 2020)

This review analyzed 28 randomized clinical trials involving more than 3,000 adults with cancer. The authors found that mindfulness-based interventions were associated with reduced anxiety and depression and improvements in health-related quality of life.  

Integrative Oncology Care of Symptoms of Anxiety and Depression in Adults With Cancer: Society for Integrative Oncology-ASCO Guideline (Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2023)

Developed jointly by the Society for Integrative Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology, this evidence-based clinical guideline reviewed the available research and recommends mindfulness-based interventions as a complementary approach to help manage symptoms of anxiety and depression in adults with cancer.
